Never Summer 100k Massage Event

When I first became an ultra runner I had the lofty ambition of running 1200+ miles in four months.
Almost immediately I experienced all types of issues.
"My feet hurt."
"My hips feel weird."
"I swing my foot strangely on the left side sometimes."
"Something is just not 'quite right.'"
However, hobbling and pathetic at times, I took action and integrated massage therapy into my plan to complete my goal. My massage therapist took the time to understand my issues and she helped me lengthen and strengthen my muscles to help me stay healthy all 1200+ miles.
Then, midway through that summer of extreme running, I randomly decided to run Never Summer 60k as my first ultra marathon.
Looking back now I chuckle. I'll be honest, afterward I shook like a leaf from the exertion and I most certainly should not have run such a hard race for my first ultra. At one point I even remember thinking to myself, "If ever there was a time to cry during an event, that time is now. Maybe I should try."
I think I stopped on the trail, squinted my eyes and tried to cry, but I was too tired. I frustratedly continued on. Even so, I finished. (I even threw in an extra 7 miles because I had gotten lost).
A month later I ran my first 400 mile month and then finished my goal of 1270 miles without any injuries.
It's no coincidence then that I love massage and the fusion of sports and massage therapy!
